The Department of Botany at the Govt. M.A.O. Graduate College was established as a separate faculty in 1985. Sheikh Abdur Raheem became the first Head of Department of Botany succeeded by Prof. Khalil-ur-Rehman Butt, Prof. Mumtaz Ahmad, Prof. Azam Hassan, Prof. Khalid Farooq and Prof. Dr. Rashid Mahmood subsequently. This department has been engaged in teaching biology to F.Sc. students and botany to BS Botany students acquiring excellent results. BS (Hons.) 4-Years Degree Program in Botany was started by Dr. Rashid Mahmood in 2018 with admission capacity of 50 students per semester. A Botanical Garden and Herbarium were established in 2008 to fulfill the needs of the students. The Department of Botany has also contributed towards horticulture, Green Pakistan activities and seminars related to Dengue awareness, being fully facilitated by the Principal Prof. Dr. Shabbir Ahmad Rana.
