The Physics department of Government M.A.O. Graduate college is housed in the first floor of Science Block which was built in 1929 and its foundation stone was laid by Sir Malcolm Hailey, the then Governor of Punjab. Mr. Ahmad Hassan Taj was its first head of department, while Dr. Aaliya Rehman Khan is the current one. The faculty consists of nine members, with four Senior Associate Professors having retired.
BS (Hons.) 4-Years Degree Program in this subject was introduced in 2010 affiliated with University of the Punjab. Currently, there are approximately 350 students studying in this program. The syllabus of BS Physics was changed in 2020, and the current sessions of 1st and 2nd Semesters are following the new course, while the higher semesters are following the old course.
The evening program of BS (Hons.) Physics is also running smoothly and the first session is in Semester 4 recently.
Research on Radio Telescope was started in 2020 under the supervision of Dr. Aaliya Rehman and 8th Semester student Tahir Razzaq and is still continued.
