Government M.A.O Graduate College was established in Amritsar in 1933 and shifted to the present building in 1947. The Political Science Department was the part and parcel of the academic schemes from its inception. The prominent individuals have served as Heads of Department over the years and these include Dr. Dilawar Hussain, Mir Hamid Mehmood, Khawaja Muhammad Ayyaz, Abdul Khaliq, Iftkhar Shehzad, Mehmood Fareed, Asif Nazir, Kamran Butt, Zahid Aziz Khan and Dildar Haider Khan .
Professor Kamran Butt is currently the Head of the Department. The faculty is consisted of highly qualified subject specialists, with two potential PhDs, and a number of M.Phils. There is a prodigious library stocked with the most current and relevant literature for Political Science Department.
Political Science Department offers 4 year BS program in which both male and female students are admitted. The results of the Department have always been exceptionally good. Moreover, the Department conducts a number of seminars, interactive talks, conferences and various student-level co-curricular activities to groom the hidden potential of the students.
